New Businesses in the Town of Ridgway
We are so glad you're here! Here are a few important things business owners in Ridgway need to know.
The Town of Ridgway does not have a business license requirement. However, we encourage new businesses to list themselves on the free business directory, a collaboration between Ridgway FUSE and the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce.
If you are selling goods, you are required to obtain a Town Sales Tax license. If you are selling beer, wine or liquor, you are required to obtain a Colorado liquor license through the Town of Ridgway. Short term rentals are required to have a short-term rental license. Business owners must obtain a sign permit for signs that promote their business. And building upgrades and renovations may require building permits. Follow the links below for full details.

Business Revitalization Committee
From July to October 2025 Ridgway FUSE hosted a series of13 community-initiated meetings to discuss challenges and short- and long-term solutions. Short term recommendations include improved signage and marketing efforts. Updates below:
- CDOT Signage: The Town is working with CDOT and a local consultant on an initiative to bring a banner structure over SH62 in Ridgway. Staff is currently coordinating with CDOT to identify a suitable location and permitting requirements. We’re also working with CDOT to ensure compliance with necessary policies.
- Wayfinding: The Town is also aiming to make more advances on the signage initiative at some point in 2025 by making updates to the Town’s Signage & Wayfinding Plan.
- Marketing/Promotion: The Town of Ridgway has contracted with the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce (RACC) to carry out marketing and promotion efforts on behalf of the community for 2025. RACC will hold quarterly business roundtables, which can serve as a forum for ongoing conversations about marketing and promotion ideas. For more information, contact Ashley Perkins, RACC Executive Director director@ridgwaycolorado.com.
FUSE's Role Moving Forward:
To address longer term recommendations, Ridgway FUSE will develop a 3–5-year roadmap for promoting economic and cultural vitality, informed by community input, data, best practices, and clearly defined roles for FUSE and other stakeholders. The strategic planning will take place with a professional facilitator from Ayers and Associates April 15, 6:00-7:30 PM and May 21, 3:00 - 7:30 PM.
